The latest Windows Live Messenger 2009 seems to have problems right after installing, I downloaded and installed the offline installer package and it just wouldn't sign in.
If you get the Error Code: 80040154 it probably means that you have the same problem and you need to download this file called
Contacts-ship-neutral.cab [Link is Broken, please see download links below] from microsoft and install it.
I think this is a part of Windows Live Communications and it was not included with the standalone messenger installer.

Extract the .cab file to any folder and run the .msi file in there.
how can i run the .msi file there?what exactly i should do..can u help me step by step?
.msi is an installer file just like a .exe file, you just need to double click the file and it will install from there.

yep.i have already installed the .msi but whenever i install the contacts it says " a newer version of contacts flatform is already installed". i still cant sign in on messenger. =(
That means you already have the latest version installed. Are you getting the same error code (80040154)when trying to sign in?

Re-register msxml3.dll
- Click on the Start menu, select Run and type the following:
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll
and also tried the .msi thing and the contacts-ship-neutral.cab but nothing ever worked for me.

errr da only simple thing to do to sign in is download faultrep.dll and place the dll in C:\Programfiles\WindowsLive\Contacts ........

cab is an archive file like zip, you can extract it using 7Zip, WinRAR or WinZIP
i know my computer doesnt recognise it i dont know why
After you extract the cab file there will be .msi file from which you can install. Did you try to extract it?
yeah it wont even save the cab
i right click on the link click save as choose to save it on the desktop then the download window opens with it and says the source file cant be read

Hey guys ! I have problem with the error code 8100030d. It seems solved when i delete the database. I can sign in but after some time it shows that i lost connection and i need to delete the database again and again so i can sign in. Any tips how to resolve it totally ?
Could you give more details of the database you are deleting?
Is it a file? What is the path to and the name of the file?
I type in Run regedit and searching Windows Live Contacts folder. There are 2 folders in it Database and Me.
I'm deleting that Database.

You might need to uninstall, delete all the MSN Live folders and install the latest version from here

Uninstalled the Live Essentials.
Error Code: 80040154
When i had Live Essentials installed with Messenger and photo gallery etc... messenger used to get signed in but soon disconnected.
then i removed it and installed the latest stand alone 14.0.8089.726 version.
Now i cannot sign in at all. get 80400154. and
Cannot uninstall 14.0.8089.726 version as well..
